ACT / SAT/PSAT Exams 

 

The ACT is a national college admissions exam that consists of subject area tests in English, Math, Reading and Science. The ACT Plus Writing includes the four subject area tests plus a 30-minute writing test. ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the U.S.

 

The ACT is administered on six test dates in September, October, December, February, April, and June. Palatine High School offers the ACT test in October and April. 

 

All registration/test date/fee information is located on the ACT Website.  Tests that are not offered at PHS are offered at many other local testing sites.  

 

IMPORTANT:   The ACT test includes an optional writing component. The College Writing Test Requirement Search Tool can help you determine which colleges require the ACT Plus Writing or you can contact the admissions office

directly at the college.

The SAT, created by the College Board, is an entrance exam used by colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. As of March 2016, there are two SAT sections:  Math, Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, plus an optional Essay. The Essay results are reported separately. Start to finish, the test will take three hours and 50 minutes.

 

The SAT exam is offered nationally every year in October, November, December, January, March, May and June. 

 

All registration/test date/fee information is located on the SAT Website.  PHS will host the SAT for junior students on April 5, 2017 during the school day.  Other national SAT tests are offered at other local testing sites.

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The test is available for Junior students. The scores from the PSAT/NMSQT are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The PSAT exam will be administered on October 10, 2018 at Palatine High School.
