What is a Career Trek?
Career Treks are career-oriented field trips to workplaces providing opportunities for students to observe the work environment, learn firsthand from professionals, ask questions and network. These are supervised trips during the school day, utilizing District 211 transportation. All students are encouraged to go on a least one Career Trek. Classes missed do not count as absences, however students are responsible for missed classroom assignments.
Where Do I get a Career Trek Permission Form & Where Do I Turn It In?
Students may download permission forms from the schoology site or from the “Career Trek” rack located in Student Services. Students should return completed Permission Forms to the Student Services Clerk of their team area. Many treks limit the number of participants. Participation is based on a first-come/first-served basis.
What is an Independent Career Opportunity?
Independent Career Opportunities are career events that students and/or parents may attend on their own. They occur during non-school hours (evenings, weekends, summer). They are not supervised by Palatine High School staff. Transportation is not provided. Links/details about these events can be found on the Independent Career Opportunities page.
Can I attend the Career Speaker Presentations at PHS?
Yes. Career Speakers attend various PHS classrooms or provide presentations during the lunch hours. Contact Mrs. Byrne, Career Advisor, if you are interested in attending. Passes are required.
Can I get help researching careers?
Yes. Mrs. Byrne, PHS’ Career Advisor, is available to all students to help discuss career interests and to assist with career research. Contact Mrs. Byrne directly or schedule an appointment in Student Services.
